I am so happy to read this! As an architect and city explorer I have often personified places and buildings in my writing and hence your piece just clicked for me! hanks for the book references too!
It was such a beautiful write-up. I took part in an activity last weekend, where the challenge was to also personify one non-living thing. I could've used emotions. I wish I read your article.
That image of crush with an orange scarf hugging me from behind when I least expected it to, was.. WOW.. As I read this I was reminded of When Loves Arrives by Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye. Specially these lines
“Love wore a hemp necklace. I would've recognized her at first glance, love wore a tight french braid.”
Thank you Raju for teaching us the creative art of personification. This will sit with me for a while.
I am going to try this out as a writing exercise. But I am already feeling intimidated as I don’t think I will be able to come up with anything that even comes close to the elegance of your character sketches. Still, I’ll try
Your character sketches are the best thing I’ve read online today! 🙌🏼 Thanks for writing this - I know I’ll keep coming back to this whenever I’m feeling blocked with my writing and need a cheat code! ✨
